Meherrin Fertilizer:
from small roots to a big future
In 1999, Meherrin Fertilizer was formed around a kitchen table because we saw the opportunity to supply farmers along the eastern United States with the fertilizer materials they needed to keep feeding America.
With a mix of good timing, hard work and dedicated but mighty team, Meherrin Fertilizer now operates out of 22 terminals along the East Coast and Mississippi River, utilizing fertilizer material and transporting it by truck, rail barge, and vessel around the country. Meherrin Fertilizer is a faith-based company that invests deeply in its employees and community.

Mike Carroll
President
Mike Carroll, president, was involved in the formation of Meherrin Fertilizer in 1999. An avid industry leader for more than 44 years, Mike loves the complex fertilizer industry and seeing the company grow. He holds a degree in agriculture from North Carolina State University. He has four children and four grandchildren and resides in Smithfield, NC. When he is not working, he enjoys traveling and golf.
Cheryl Campbell
Director of Purchasing
Cheryl Campbell oversees the purchases of MFI’s dry materials both domestic and imports. Before joining MFI in 2004, Cheryl served as a Sales engineer with IBM and as a National Account Manager with Siemens. She holds a BA in Business Administration and a BA in Economics from North Carolina State University. Cheryl is the proud mother of three children and three wonderful grandsons. She resides in Smithfield, NC where she enjoys serving the community in the Rotary, gardening, and travel.
Andrew Carroll
Regional Territory Manager, North Carolina
Andrew Carroll, sales, has been with MFI since 2014 when he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the team. He has a degree in Ag Business Management from NC State and grew up in the fertilizer industry. He enjoys the logistics side of the business and making sure that customers receive their shipments when they need it. He resides in Smithfield, NC with his wife and twin daughters. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, and playing golf and pickleball.
Joseph Walton
Regional Territory Manager, Virgina, North Carolina
Joseph W. Walton is an agronomist and Certified Crop Advisor. He has worked for Meherrin Fertilizer for 14 years. He attended college and earned a degree in agronomy from Ferrum College in 1985. He then began working for Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties as a Tobacco Specialist before working at Rainbow Fertilizer and Philip Morris, and joining Meherrin. Joe has 37 years of experience working with farmers and fertilizer dealers in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Joe resides in Brunswick County, VA with his two daughters.
Rick Wilson
Regional Territory Manager, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina
Rick Wilson graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Fruit and Vegetable Horticulture and then began his career in the fertilizer industry with IMC Rainbow in 1988. He joined the MFI Team in 2011 as a territory manager for South Carolina and Georgia. Rick and his wife Rhoda have four children and reside in Georgetown, SC, where they enjoy boating and fishing.
Donna Barksdale
Controller
Donna Barksdale, controller, joined MFI in 1999 the year the company was founded. She graduated from Christopher Newport University with a BA in Business and is a licensed CPA in both North Carolina and Virginia. Donna is the proud mother of three sons and the ecstatic grandmother of one grandson and two granddaughters. She is an avid tennis player who enjoys spending time with family and friends at the beach!
